Food Industry Technical Ltd - Lower your carbon footprint

Food Industry Technical is part of Tesco’s plan to reduce their carbon footprint by 50% by 2020

On the 18th January 2007 Sir Terry Leahy gave a speech claming Tesco will reduce the carbon footprint of their existing stores and distribution centres around the world by 50% by 2020 and will be contributing £100m to developing sustainable low-carbon technology.
Tesco are undertaking many projects to achieve this goal. Tesco have been considering the effects of its stores on the environment and how to reduce them for many years. In 2001-2005 Tesco installed Intelli-Hood, an energy saving ventilation system, in their bakeries, rotisseries, and staff and customer restaurants, throughout the UK.
Intelli-Hood is a demand based ventilation system which reduces the fans energy consumption by up to 60%. This is a significant amount which will be visible on your energy bill. The system gives an average pay back period of 1.5 years seeing a great return of investment.
Intelli-Hood controls the fan speed using optic and temperature sensors which detect the conditions in the hood. This results in the fan only running when cooking/baking is taking place, rather than constantly throughout the day. T
To date Intelli-Hood has been installed in 450 UK Tesco stores, 750 systems, and due to the savings made Tesco are in the process of rolling out the system in Europe.
Patrick Jubb, UK Engineering Manager says;
“Food Industry Technical has carried out over 400 Intelli-Hood installations for Tesco with professional planning and effective delivery in one of the smoothest rollouts of a product we have experienced for a long time”.
Reducing a company’s carbon footprint is not a new idea but due to the media coverage it has come into the forefront of peoples minds. Everybody is asking themselves if there is something they can do to help reduce the effects our living is having on future generations, and Intelli-Hood is a proven method for the catering industry.
