BSK-Materials - EUROPEAN REGULATIONS INCREASE DEMANDS FOR
‘PARSEC THERMO-BRITE’
Lightweight membrane from BSK Materials provides
toughness & durability with high thermal and moisture
barrier performance
Increased thermal and air-tightness regulations for all
buildings in Europe are rapidly boosting demands for
‘Parsec Thermo-Brite’. A spin-off from the NASA space
programme, the six layer composite radiant vapour
barrier material is manufactured exclusively in the UK
by BSK Materials.
Featuring a tear and puncture resistant polymer core and
incorporating outer layers of highly reflective foil and
metalised polyester, Parsec is coated with a transparent
lacquer for maximum protection against damage and
corrosion. This ultra-lightweight membrane, weight is an
important consideration in roofing applications,
provides toughness, durability and outstanding thermal
and moisture barrier performance.
Providing a highly efficient and long-term cost
effective solution, Parsec remains the clear market
leader in the field of reflective insulation materials.
The versatile product is used for more demanding
applications where the thermal and moisture barrier
performance of a structure will have a major impact on
the long term running costs and durability of the
building.
In Western Europe, Parsec is used in normal temperate
zone applications to seal the outer building fabric
against radiated heat loss and moisture gain from the
inside to the outside. The high thermal, moisture
barrier and strength performance characteristics of
Parsec have proved to be highly effective in factory,
agricultural, and health spa buildings, plus heating and
ventilation applications. Parsec also offers a Class 0
fire rating.
Parsec applications also include metal roofing in the
Far East, where Singapore-based Eltraco markets the
product. In these equatorial markets levels of heat and
humidity offer what are probably the most challenging
and hostile environments for modern lightweight,
insulated and air-conditioned buildings. Unlike its use
in temperate climes, the role of the vapour barrier is
reversed and Parsec is used to seal the inside of the
building against solar gain, air movement and moisture
ingress, which would place excessive loading on air
conditioning systems, eliminate the effectiveness of
fibrous insulation and quickly degrade the internal
structure.
By pioneering the advancement of extrusion coating,
laminating, aqueous coating, hot melt and adhesive
lamination technologies, Rochester-based BSK boasts a
portfolio of world-beating brands. These include
‘Sisalkraft’ building papers; ‘Prolex’ vapour control
materials; ‘Insulex Vented Foil Bubble’ used in new
build timber frame housing; ‘Insulex Insulating Foil
Bubble’ and standard and customised facings for board,
mineral fibre and other insulation products.
The company operates a number of business divisions
focussed on specific construction and packaging sectors.
Exports represent some 25 per cent of the group’s output
with products sold through an international network of
distributors in over 30 countries. The company is always
actively looking to grow overseas sales and is currently
seeking additional Parsec Thermo-Brite partners and
distributors in Europe.
BSK works to international quality protocols ISO
9001:2000. The company’s technologies handle a wide
range of flexible substrates including foil, paper,
glass tissue, glass reinforcement and film. An
independent group, BSK’s 12-acre site incorporates
production, warehousing and logistics facilities geared
to support an efficient supply chain management service.
The company’s active research and development programme
is focussed on continual product innovation and energy
reduction.
