Carrier Air Conditioning - Standardised heat recovery unit launched by Carrier

The new Carrier Airosmart heat recovery unit is a standardized air handling system with significant energy-saving characteristics. By making heat recovery standard at even the smallest size of unit, Carrier is meeting a new market demand driven by legislative changes and the requirement for energy savings.
For airflows up to 1.3 m3/s a counterflow plate heat exchanger is used resulting in energy efficiency values up to 90%. For air flows of 1.7 m3/s and above a heat recovery wheel is used as standard. A sorption rotor is available as an option to allow the recovery of both temperature and moisture, increasing efficiency still further.
The Carrier Airosmart can also be supplied with a complete bypass circuit enabling free cooling using outside air resulting in a significant saving in energy consumption, as seen on the latest Carrier chiller systems that use this technology.
The Airosmart is a ‘plug and play’ system, and is simple to install. It operates with controllable brushless DC or ‘EC’ motors which use less energy, especially at lower speeds, than the more commonly used asynchronous motors.
“This unit puts sophisticated heat recovery and controls technology in a standard ‘off the shelf’ unit that is economic to produce and sell,” is how Carrier’s air handling unit director Tony Millard sums up the latest example of innovation from the market leader in integrated ac systems.
The Carrier Airosmart is available with an air flow range from 0.2 to 4.2 m3/s. It offers integral automatic frost protection. Options include heating or cooling coils delivered installed within the same unit structure.
The use of double-skin insulated panels further contributes to the energy-saving character of the Airosmart. The casing complies with thermal transmission class T2 and has a cold bridge factor of TB1 in accordance with EN 1886.
This unit can also be seen as part of the growing trend for integrated systems. It has a particularly small footprint and integrates perfectly within a Carrier Aquasmart controlled hydronic air conditioning system or with standard building management control systems.
Carrier Corporation, headquartered in Farmington, Connecticut, USA, is the world’s largest provider of heating, air conditioning and refrigeration solutions with operations in 172 countries. It is part of United Technologies Corp, (NYSE:UTX) is a diversified company that provides a broad range of high technology products and services to the aerospace and commercial building industries worldwide.
