Liquid Plastics Bring Roofs to Life

Following the huge success of the Cold Fusion Bonded Built-Up Roofing and Inverted Roofing Systems, Liquid Plastics have now launched their new Green Roof Systems. Liquid Plastics recognise the substantial growth of the Green Roof Market and the many economic and environmental benefits associated with Green Roofs, some of which include aiding noise reduction, increasing the thermal performance of a building, improving aesthetics and absorbing CO2.
Liquid Plastics’ new Extensive and Intensive Green Roof Systems include the completely seamless and cold applied Decothane EC Root Resistant (RR) Grade Waterproofing System. This is reinforced with glass fibre matting and once cured, a topcoat of Decothane EC RR ensures complete seamless waterproofing protection, which is guaranteed for 25 years. Following this an Extensive or Intensive Green Roof build-up is installed by our specialist Green Roof Partner, Greenfix Ltd. Mike Cottage, Greenfix Ltd’s Managing Director says “We are delighted with our partnership with Liquid Plastics, who have a fantastic product and vast experience in the roofing market. Greenfix Ltd has 20 years experience in environmental civil engineering and a strong understanding of the engineering capabilities of plant and root systems for green roof applications. Together we are able to combine our expertise in both roof waterproofing and Green Roof Systems to provide a one stop service, giving the customer total peace of mind.”
Extensive Green Roof Systems are an ideal solution to provide an aesthetic, low maintenance ecological feature, which can be admired from surrounding buildings. Due to a relatively shallow and lightweight growing medium they are ideal for use over most structures including pitched roofs and generally use a pre-grown sedum blanket. Extensive Brown Roofs recycle existing brown site materials such as crushed brick, and help to create biodiversity for local plant and animal species. Dusty Gedge, founder of Livingroofs.org, presented the importance of Green and Brown Roofs at Liquid Plastics’ Press Launch held at Blenheim Palace. Dusty stressed the important role that Green Roofs have on the environment, he said, “They play a positive part in climate change, adaptability and they help to deliver local, regional and national biodiversity action plans.”
Intensive Green Roof designs can allow the roof area to be utilised as highly aesthetic areas for recreation, public access or simply to be admired from surrounding buildings. They have a deeper growing medium than Extensive Green Roofs to support heavy vegetation such as trees, shrubs, turf and hard landscaping. The roof structure will require extra loading capability to withstand the weight of the system and support an irrigation system for maintenance, if required.
Liquid Plastics’ Green Roof Systems comprise of a warm, inverted or cold roof design with the addition of Biodrain or Geodrain drainage layer (depending on the chosen Green Roof System), which are made from recycled materials and a Filter Fleece, to prevent debris, such as soil and seeds, passing through and blocking up the system. The final stage is to install the growing medium and vegetation for the chosen Extensive or Intensive Green Roof System.
The new Green Roof Systems continue Liquid Plastics’ ethos of being an expansive and innovative company. Since the company’s formation in 1963, Liquid Plastics has manufactured high performance waterproofing systems, which combine all the inherent advantages of liquid roofing. These systems offer levels of performance and reliability that are unsurpassed by other conventional counterparts.
