Icopal Systems - Icopal's Monaperm delivers the ultimate valentine's present

When contractor Adrian Billingsley was asked to gift wrap a new house as a Valentine’s present there was really only one material that was up to the job – Icopal’s Monarperm 700 breather membrane.
Hollywood photographer Jasin Boland had bought his fiancée Maria Moral Pena a £500,000 luxury holiday home on the exclusive Lower Mill Estate near the Prince of Wales’ Highgrove Estate in Gloucestershire.
And he wanted the limited-edition, Richard Reid-designed house gift wrapped in white paper, decorated with red hearts and topped off with a giant pink ribbon and bow.
Adrian was hired for the gift wrap and specified Icopal’s Monarperm 700 – a high-performance breathable membrane for pitched roofs that eliminates the need for traditional eaves/ridge ventilation.
Its special three-layer composite structure uses a unique microporous film that provides high tensile strength and puncture resistance. It is also lightweight, easy to handle at 1.5 metres wide and UV stable.
All of this was just as well because the gift wrap had to be sewn industrially and the shape prefabricated before it was moved to site. Five pieces – one for the roof and two each for the walls and the gable ends – were then joined on site using high-strength Velcro.
Adrian said: “We chose Monarperm for several reasons. The material was plain white on one side so had the appearance of paper which was essential to make it look like wrapping paper. But it was very strong and had to withstand gale force winds and the downdraft of the helicopter that brought Jasin and Maria in.
“It was also waterproof which was just as well as on the day of installation it was pouring with rain. We could also source the full amount at short notice and it was the most cost effective of the roofing membranes we could source.”
Jasin, who also has a home on Australia’s Gold Coast, flew actress Maria in by private helicopter before rowing her across one of the seven lakes on the estate to unwrap her new, four-bedroomed holiday home.
They met three years ago in her home city of Berlin on the set of The Bourne Supremacy where he was working as the official stills photographer and she was an extra. Jason proposed on the exact same spot last December.
Jasin plans to teach himself to paint when he gives up work and that is why he chose Lower Mill (www.lowermillestate.com) where there is already a budding artists' community and the largest collection of modernism in the rural landscape
