Power Electrics - Educated Choice . . . . .
Power Electrics has recently installed two
generating sets at Bristol University on behalf of SEC Ltd, one
of the country's leading Mechanical & Electrical contractors.
The project required the provision of 2 x 1000 kVA standby power
units to maintain power to the University’s Medical Science
Facilities without the need to load-shed in the event of mains
failure.
Bristol’s School of Medical Sciences comprises the Departments
of Anatomy, Biochemistry, Cellular and Molecular Medicine,
Pharmacology and Physiology. Its main building is within the
University precinct which includes allied departments in the
Faculty of Science, and close to the hospitals of central
Bristol. The five departments house about 100 academic staff and
over 170 independent research fellows and postdoctoral
researchers, in addition to about 160 PhD students.
The installation consists of two continuously rated PE
1000P1,1000kVA, 800kw 1390 Amps, 230/400 Volts, 50 Hz AC diesel
generating sets running at 1500rpm. The, Insight 5000 auto start
control panels are complete with automatic shutdown protection
for:
Low oil pressure
High engine temperature
Over/ under speed
Over/under voltage
Fail to start
Overload
High lubrication oil temperature and fire
The units are housed adjacent to the building in weatherproof
acoustic containers, soundproofed to 55dBA @ 1 metre. The 10000
litre double skin fuel bulk tank is built to BS799 type 3.
PE’s fleet of generators range from 10 -1500kVa in single units
and are custom designed to meet the demanding needs of both the
rental and sales markets. Its service and parts departments
ensure customers generators are maintained to the very highest
standards and its transport fleet operates 24/7 across the UK,
offering a truly national depot network.
