CMS Acoustic Solutions - Social Trends say noisy neighbours are a no no
The latest Social Trends survey indicates a
sharp rise in densely populated areas, and this is only expected
to continue. While this may explain why complaints about noisy
neighbours have reached the highest point in a decade, this is
only part of the problem.
Councils are quick to blame selfish attitudes and incompatible
lifestyles, but the real culprit is inadequate sound insulation
– because noise control standards have not kept pace with social
changes.
Ahead of revisions to Part E in 2008, now is the time to think
about how to accommodate modern living conditions. Not only
should the revised regulations better account for mid-range
frequencies such as speech, but they must also address the
levels which arise from ever powerful sound systems and wall
mounted plasma TVs.
Society constantly evolves. If it is to be a contented one, Part
E and acoustic provision must do so too.
