Weatherite Building Services Ltd - Weatherite plays it cool at West Midlands Hospital

Weatherite, the West Midlands based building services group, has supplied a series of air conditioning units which help maintain the integrity of blood samples at Alexandra Hospital in Redditch.
The equipment for the hospital – part of the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust - also provides comfort cooling for the staff working in the Haematology Department and was installed by Weatherite Building Services.
Similar plant was also provided by the Aldridge-based company to cool the laboratory and the seminar room in the hospital’s Pathology Department and all services were maintained during the installation period.
“There have been various changes in the blood testing processes over the years including the increasing use of computers and other heat generating equipment,“ explains hospital engineer Stuart Parsons.
“It was critical to ensure the integrity of blood samples awaiting tests by maintaining them at the right temperature. Otherwise new samples had to be taken resulting in delays in patient care.”
As an added bonus, the new Weatherite system has also improved room comfort levels, creating greatly improved working conditions for hospital staff operating in the department.
Weatherite Building Services supplied and installed completely new split systems involving wall and ceiling mounted units for the two departments and the pathology seminar room.
Other installations were completed in the histology, microbiology and biochemistry departments.
The company is part of the Weatherite group, formed in 1972, which specialises in the design and manufacture of packaged air conditioning equipment and air handling units.
More recently, the company has expanded its activities to cover other sectors of the building services market.
“We now offer a single source choice to all members of the supply chain including project management, design, installation and commissioning facilities,” explains WBS sales director Mike Turton.
“This covers not only air conditioning equipment but also ventilation, fire protection, heating, water and control systems.”
Other products and services include control panels, electrical contracting, shopfronts and shutters, fire doors, rooflights and glazing systems.
