PSI - PowerShield protects against business shutdown resulting from electricity power surges
PSI, one of the UK’s leading developers of power surge
protection systems, has launched the latest version of
PowerShield. This cost effective transient voltage surge
arrestor is fully compliant with the latest wiring standards and
will deliver the highest level of protection for whole
buildings, including all critical electrical circuits and
equipment. It will play an important role in helping
organisations to meet business continuity guidelines for
maintaining operations.
PowerShield is deployed in parallel with the incoming power
supply to eliminate the damaging effects of transients, surges
and spikes that can be caused by external events such as local
lightning strikes and utility capacitor switching. It detects
the first impulse of any excess voltage and safely diverts it
away in less than one nanosecond (one billionth of a second)
preventing the occurrence of expensive damage to electrical
equipment including computers, IT networks, production lines,
telephones, EPOS, lifts and lighting.
According to Jonathon Glover, a director of PSI: “Despite the
increasing reliance on computers and other
microprocessor-controlled equipment, most businesses are
unprepared for the catastrophic failures that could result from
power surges. Insurance companies are now actively recommending
clients to install surge protection to minimise the likelihood
of business shutdowns as a result of power problems.”
PowerShield has been designed to complement UPS systems that
protect key equipment by maintaining power in event of sudden or
unexpected loss. It has the resilience to be installed on the
live side of an electrical system giving maximum protection to
equipment connected to every power outlet including the UPS.
“There seems to be some confusion in the market as any built-in
surge protection included by manufacturers is there purely to
protect the UPS. This will not prevent transients, surges and
spikes from bypassing the UPS system and damaging electrical
circuits and equipment,” continued Jonathon Glover. “The cost of
installing PowerShield is minimal compared with the major
expense and business disruption of repairing or replacing
damaged equipment.”
Using the latest solid-state electronics, PowerShield is totally
maintenance free and carries a full fifteen-year warranty. At
133x117x78mm, this small, compact unit can be easily installed
into any main power panel. It has been fully tested and approved
by Underwriters Laboratories a nationally approved testing
authority.
