ISG Totty Building celebrates a famous Victory in Stockbridge
ISG Totty Building has been awarded a £1.6 million project to
transform the derelict Victory Club in Stocksbridge, between
Sheffield and Barnsley, into a new community and performing arts
centre. The scheme, for the charity STEP Development Trust, will
see the contractor strip out and refurbish the former Social
Club to form a modern, multi-use community facility.
A single-storey extension will be built at the front of the
Victory Club, which will feature a glazed roof structure to
increase the volume of natural light entering the building. The
new extension will house the main reception area, box office and
several multi purpose rooms. ISG Totty Building will carry out
minor refurbishment in the main 350-seat concert hall, whilst
rationalising space throughout the remaining building to form a
range of modern facilities.
Once completed, the refurbished centre will boast a music room
with recording studio, a new lounge area, family room, a new
bar/café area with high specification catering kitchen,
refurbished welfare facilities and a second smaller concert
hall, along with a 200-seat function room. ISG Totty Building
will replace the existing roof structure with a modern pressed
metal pitched roof design, and all windows will be replaced and
new mechanical & electrical services installed throughout.
Externally, the contractor will demolish an existing beer cellar
to the side elevation and form an access route to the rear of
the building, where a new floodlit, 37 space car par will be
formed. The project is due to commence mid-March and is
scheduled for completion in October 2007.
Philip Ryder, managing director of ISG Totty Building,
commented: “STEP Development Trust has worked incredibly hard to
get this important community project from the drawing board and
onto site, and we are delighted that ISG Totty Building has been
selected as the main contractor. We are confident that once
completed, the new centre will provide a highly flexible
resource for Stocksbridge residents and provide a focal point
for local ongoing regeneration initiatives.”
